Walsin Lihwa Corporation announced today (29th) the completion of a contract exchange ceremony with Denmark's NKT Group subsidiary, NKT HV Cables AB (NKT), officially launching its subsea cable business and advancing its role in energy transition infrastructure.
Today (29th), Walsin Lihwa Corporation announced a contract exchange ceremony with NKT HV Cables AB, a subsidiary of Denmark's NKT Group, officially launching its submarine cable business to support energy transition projects.
The signing ceremony was co-hosted by Walsin Lihwa Chairman Yu-Lon Chiao and NKT Group Chairman Jens Due Olsen. Following the contract signing, Walsin Lihwa secured licensing and service agreements for NKT’s specialized submarine cable technology for wind power applications, enhancing the technological support and product development needed for its Kaohsiung Port submarine cable factory. Both parties also held further discussions on collaboration progress and conducted an on-site inspection of the planned factory location.
Taiwan’s First Offshore Cable Factory
The Kaohsiung Port submarine cable factory will be Taiwan’s first offshore cable manufacturing facility, with trial production slated for late 2025 and full operations beginning in 2027. This milestone marks Walsin Lihwa’s expansion into renewable energy and a significant step toward the localization of Taiwan’s offshore wind supply chain, advancing the nation’s green economy.
At the ceremony, Chairman Yu-Lon Chiao stated:

We are honored to collaborate with NKT, a world-class submarine cable company known for its superior technology and excellent track record. This partnership creates a mutually beneficial opportunity that accelerates Walsin Lihwa's growth in this field while contributing to Taiwan’s green energy development."
